Not all burger patties are created equal: Here are 5 different types!

There are many types of burger patty, but they’re not all created equal. Here are the five main types of burger patty – and why ours is the best.

5 types of burger patty | Ribs & Burgers

Forget career decisions and life goals – your choice of burger is what can make your day 100% better right now. From taste to level of satisfaction, the right burger can be the highlight of any day.

So it’s no wonder that here at Ribs & Burgers, we take our menu pretty seriously. And when the heart of any burger is quite literally the patty, that’s where we know we have to deliver on ingredients, flavour profiles, texture, and the exact right level of seared.

So here is the Ribs & Burgers guide to the different types of patties you might encounter – and why we think ours is the kind that could make your day 100% better.

  • The Smashed Patty

It’s trendy, it’s different, and it really does sound like a party. The Smashed Patty is made by pressing a ball of mince hard onto a hot grill, squishing it down flat so it spreads wide and thin.

As a result, it cooks quickly and provides plenty of crunch thanks to its slimmer profile. You might sometimes find burgers piled with two or more smashed patties to add flair and additional crunch.

And while we have nothing against a good Smashed Patty, it’s just not quite the Ribs & Burgers style.

  • The Pub-Style Patty

If you were to make a burger at home, you’re probably making a Pub-Style Patty – this is just what it’s called when it’s dressed up at a pub.

Thick, round, and classic, this patty is typically juicy and sturdy. It comes with your standard pub toppings, and is served with a side of fries or salad. Dealer’s choice.

There’s nothing fancy or pretentious about this patty, and that’s often why it’s so beloved. Yet again, it’s not quite the Ribs & Burgers patty style.

  • The Stuffed Patty

Have you ever wanted something a little extra in your burger patty? Perhaps you’ve loved a different part of your burger so much, that you wanted some of it in the patty as well?

Enter, the Stuffed Patty. From the outside it looks innocent enough, but one bite in and you are dealing with molten cheese, or perhaps a ring of onion or some chunks of jalapeno. It’s usually cheese, but you can’t blame a chef for getting creative.

These patties are certainly special, but they’re still not quite what we have in mind when we whip up a burger at Ribs & Burgers.

  1. The Plant-Based Patty

An honourable mention goes to the modern plant-based patty. Gone are the days when vegetarians only got a cross-section of cauliflower in their burger – now it’s Beyond Meat, slices of artfully prepared mushroom, jackfruit, halloumi, and all sorts of delicious alternatives.

They get a well-earned place on this list, but they’re still not quite the patty we have in mind.

  • The Steakhouse Patty

Imagine a classic burger patty, but elevated. It doesn’t take a fancy squishing technique or a layer of melty cheese in the middle – it simply takes top quality ingredients and chefs who know that the right about of sear is sear-ious business.

This is the one you’ll find at Ribs & Burgers. It’s prime cuts with 100% Australian Angus beef. It’s rich, full flavoured, beautifully textured, and it delivers that steakhouse experience in burger form.

Of course, we also pair it with other similarly elevated versions of each burger ingredient. Think bakery-style brioche buns, Brooklyn-style pickles, and top quality everything else.

So next time you’re making a burger decision, make it a 100% Australian Angus beef decision – and make your day 100% better with Ribs & Burgers.
